Making Silent Stones Speak | Palombella Hart

These large waterworn rocks found at Uttakleiv Beach, give the impression of mere pebbles on the beach but the majority of them are larger than men! They form an impregnable natural sea defence against storms and have resulted from erosion of the surrounding cliff faces over millennia. It got me thinking when I was set up on top of one of these rocks, close to midnight waiting to photograph the sunset, about if these rocks could speak, what memories they could share. I know this may sound like a crazy train of thought but from an archaeologist’s viewpoint it isn’t so far fetched because from studying rocks used by prehistoric people, we learned so much about how they lived, so in sense we made the silent stones speak!
